On January 27, 2020 the Lagos State Government announced the ban of motorcycle also known as Okada and Tricycle also known as Keke Napep.
Okada and Keke Napep has been accused by the society of creating menace on the road and causing accidents in which the victims  do meet their untimely death or they are physically disabled.
Unfortunately, the ban is affected by top commercial companies in which they use motorcycle to run their business, Oride, Max.ng, Gokada and other commercial companies.
In this article, we will take a look at the ADVANTAGES and DISADVANTAGES of motorcycle (Okada) and tricycle (Keke Napep) in Lagos State.

ADVANTAGES
1. Road accidents will be reduced. Researchers has confirmed that most road accident are caused by motorcycle(Okada). Most bike riders have little or no knowledge of how to ride a bike, especially the Hausa tribe called the “Aboki”.
2. There will be less Traffic. Motorcycle (Okada) and tricycle (Keke Napep) are one of the major problem in road traffic in Lagos State. They park illegally and are known for driving  or riding on a lane which is not meant for them to pass through, it is known as “One way”
3. They violate certain rules. For example, they are not supposed to pass through the Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) lane, but they do so to beat the traffic. With this ban, BRT can move freely without watching for motorcycles.
4. No more Over speeding. Most motorcycles riders love speeding, and this is one of the reasons why accident occur most times on the road. There is a saying that says “Over speeding kills”.
5. Youth could be more productive. 60% of Lagos State bike riders are mostly youth, they range from 18-25. This ban could make them more productive by creating business or learning handwork that could make them useful for their self and the society.

DISADVANTAGES

1. Crimes. Now that the bike riders has lost their job, most of them will take to crime like Robbery, Kidnapping, Theft and so on to survive because most them are illiterate and have little or no educational background or handwork.
2. Financial Problems. Most families affected by the ban will find it hard to solve their financial situations, such as, House rent, Children school fees ( this is optional if the child is going to a government school), Utility bills ( e.g. Electricity bills) and other things.
3. Migration. Families who are affected by the ban will have to move of Lagos State to another state so that the Man would be able to continue his bike business to be able to cater for his family
4. Bankrupt. Top companies like Gokada, Max.ng, Oride could go bankrupt or closed down because the ban won’t allow them to continue their business. Most of their services rendered are mostly on the major roads, this won’t allow them operate anymore
5. Less Delivery Goods. Companies like Jumia and Konga use Motorcycle to be able to deliver goods to their buyers. Motorcycles are the fastest way to deliver goods and it saves time. There won’t be delivery services anymore.
6. Lateness. Without motorcycles or tricycle, people are may be late to work, school or any destination if there is heavy traffic. Motorcycle can beat the traffic by passing through vehicles.

You can drop your opinion if you think Banning of Motorcycle and Tricycle is the right decision to make Lagos State a better state to live in.
